What is Time Tourist?

A new annual immersive festival and game — in the public service.

Players will race around town to discover fun-and-funny playable pop-ups that reveal the story of why today, of all days, is so dang interesting to the people of the future.

"It's like 'Shakespeare in the Park' meets 'Earth Day' meets 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.'"

Do I Need a Ticket to Attend?  

Not if you live Fillmore, California or the surrounding region. You can experience a "time travel convention" happening all around town on September 19th, from 10-6pm.   

The Time Travel Convention is free and open to the general public Saturday, Sept 19th from 10 am to 6 pm. Just show up and play along.

This event is suitable for all ages when accompanied by an adult. You play as yourself, living in the modern day — no costumes are needed.

However... 

Tickets are required for TIME TOURISTS 

If you're the type that wants the full immersive experience — you can buy a ticket and agree to play as a Time Tourist. This ticket offers the greatly expanded, private and multi-day experience for that certain type of individual who greatly prefers to help make the magic and attend this event in costume.

We play as amnesiac time travelers who race from location to location to decipher a legendary historic event we travelled here to witness - and recreationally forgot - to heighten its entertainment value.

You get everything the public gets on Saturday - all the theatrical events, the game and the activities. Plus an immersive opening night party Friday, Sept 18th exclusively for time travelers. Plus plus an immersive finale party on Saturday night, Sept 19th where the biggest mystery is revealed - all reserved for ticketed Time Tourists only.

What's included in my Time Tourist ticket?

  1. Way more than 24 hours of fun & funny pop-up playable immersive activations masterminded by a stellar team of award-winning game, theatre and theme park designers. For 2026 we're traveling to Fillmore, California!
  2. A costumed live-action adventure game with staged theatrical events — where player actions determine the outcome of the story!
  3. A chance to make the magic. The option to submit a public-service art project based on Fillmore's community needs - you and your pals can create an original game or activation subsidized by micro-grants!
  4. Initiation into a trusted community of playful, smart and funny creative types with a strong social conscience.

With these additional stretch goals…

  1. Our Saturday night finale party will now include a sumptuous, bumptious dinner with alcohol pairings.
  2. Our Friday night opening party will now include a sumptuous, bumptious dinner with alcohol pairings.
  3. A 365-episode expansion pack to the Time Tourist game that keeps the story and community going daily, all year-round.

(These stretch goals are currently planned, but technically cost-dependent - we'll announce each officially as soon as we're sure. Since tickets are PWYC, we're attentive to the danger of over-promising.)

So what's the point of all this?

Time Tourist is a container in which we use jokey creative play to prototype the ideas, values and behaviors of utopia.

When our art succeeds, we and our audiences will experience these outcomes…

  1. "Future Fun:" Creative problem-solving for pleasure, in the public service.
  2. Fresh eyes: Recognize the everyday as extraordinary, engage first-principles thinking to discover new solutions to old problems.
  3. Presence & Immediacy: Now is the important moment. Contemplate compounding efforts. Today's the day!
  4. Agency: Any improvement, especially small improvements, are our unique privilege to make.
  5. Calculated Optimism: Reject learned helplessness. Optimism is the only viable strategy.

These outcomes are woven into every part of the project, from the choice of collaborators, to the story, activities, and our commitment to the people of Fillmore.
